To Buy Organic or Not? That Is the Question.

Tuesday March 18, 2008

Many new parents - and those buying for the lucky couple - will flock to organic fabrics. Even on this site, we've got an entire section devoted to organic baby clothing.

But here's a million dollar question: Why are you actually buying organic baby clothing? Is it to save the environment? Is it because you feel that organic fibers are better for your baby's skin?

Well, before you purchase that next pack of organic onesies, consider this: you might do far more to save the environment if you purchase some of your baby clothing at consignment shops or use hand-me-downs from friends and family.

While it might not be as chic to dress your baby in "used" clothing, it certainly saves the landfills from seeing yet another pound of textiles that might otherwise be thrown away. Plus, you know how quickly babies grow; most baby clothes are hardly worn, much less considered "used," before they make their way out of one closet and in to another.
