Get Organized
You still need to go through your baby’s closet and organize and sort through the clothes that he or she has outgrown. The major difference is that your final pile of items will be for the auction site instead of for the consignment shop.
Before you start listing used baby clothes for sale, you need to determine if you want to sell them piece by piece, by the outfit, or in a lot. It can be tempting to put everything in one pile and sell it as a lot, but often times, you’ll get more money out of selling it piece-by-piece.
Take Photos
Used baby clothes sell better with pictures, so have your camera ready. For a detailed explanation of how to list and make a sale of used baby clothes on eBay, check out this article from our Guide to eBay.
Creating the Auction
You will need to decide how long you want your auction to run, and will likely even have some idea of how much money you’d like to make from the auction. Remember though, the price you end up getting is driven solely by the bidding of the buyers; if you don’t set a reserve price, you must take what the highest bidder is willing to pay – even if it’s less than you’d ultimately like.
Providing accurate descriptions is very important to the process of selling on auction sites. These descriptions are one of the only things that potential buyers have to go on when browsing the listings. Make your listings eye-catching and very descriptive and you’ll have much better success.
Closing the Auction and Shipping the Baby Clothes
Once the auction wraps, and you get paid, you’ll be responsible for getting the used baby clothes wrapped up and off to the post office. While the buyer traditionally pays for the shipping, you can offer to do so if you feel that it will increase the likelihood of the auction ending with a higher price.
Selling used baby clothes on eBay can be fun. In fact, many parents like it so much they turn it into a hobby for themselves as it can provide a little extra money at the end of the month to spend on new baby clothes for their own child.
