Hot Tip: Think "Consignment" When Shopping for Baby Clothes

A great way to save money and keep your baby well-dressed.

By Stacie McClintock, About.com

Baby clothing consignment shops are popping up all over the place, both online and off-line.

This is a great way to shop for your new baby, especially when you're on a budget. More often than not, a baby only wears an outfit a few times before it's already too small; there is nothing left to do but either hand it down, or send it to the consignment store.

You'll be surprised how many designer brand names you'll find hanging on the racks; many will even still have tags on them.

As a bonus, you'll also be doing your part to save the environment too. Thousands of pounds of textiles are sent to landfills each year. By buying used baby clothing, you're recycling those textiles.

So, check your local yellow pages for neighborhood baby clothing consignment shops, or use Google to search for one online. You can feel good knowing that you're purchase will serve many purposes; then, when your baby outgrows the clothes, you can take them back to the consignment store for another lucky parent to find.
