New parents face an onslaught of unfamiliar terminology. Words floating around include "onesie," "layette," "sleepers." The list is endless. So what exactly is this stuff?
A layette, by definition, is a set of basic necessities for a newborn baby. You'll often see these packaged together at stores. Many include a sleeper, a beanie cap, burp cloth, blanket, and slippers.
More extravagant versions of layettes are also available. These can include cashmere blankets and monogramed clothing and bath towels. A layette is really whatever you want it to be.
