Organic Cotton Baby Clothes

By Stacie McClintock, About.com

Definition:

Organic cotton is, like all other organic fibers, grown without the use of toxic chemical pesticides and fertilizers. Farmers that grow organic cotton use crop rotation as an alternative to agrochemicals and artificial fertilizers.

Organic cotton baby clothes are also manufactured without the use of toxic chemicals. This means that, while in the manufacturing process, the clothes will not be subjected to dyes or bleaches, nor will they be sprayed with formaldehyde to preserve their "fresh look" before shipping.

While organic cotton has less of an impact on the environment, it does cost more to produce it. For many parents, the added expense of organic cotton baby clothes is well offset by the benefit of having clothes free of pesticides.

Organic cotton is grown successfully in many regions of the world and is becoming readily available at nearly every retailer.
