Are Newborn Baby Clothes Worth It? And, How Many Clothes Does a Baby Really Need?

By October 31, 2012

Follow me on:

A newly-released Marks & Spencer study claims that the average baby has 56 different outfits in their closet at any one time ... 56! How that happens totally blows my mind. Though if I think about my own daughter's closet, I'm sure we're close.

And sadly, not everything gets worn. In my heart, I know we don't need that many, but it's tough to turn down hand-me-downs, right?

But I know many parents spend a lot of money buying newborn-sized baby clothes, and it's really unnecessary. So I'm here to tell you to stop! Put that adorable miniature sized outfit back on the rack!!

Remember, babies don't stay teeny-tiny for long ... and some are born big enough that they're over the industry standard "newborn average" weight limit of seven pounds. Invest in essential baby gear or a spa treatment for yourself instead; you deserve it!

I agree. I have read some advises just to buy 2 or 3 sleepwears for a newborn baby but even so I have used them for only maybe 2 or 3 times. It is so amazing how a newborn baby grows so fast.
